Casey Affleck Comes Under More Fire From Actresses for Sexual Harassment Allegations

The campaign against Casey Affleck just won’t go away.

Constance Wu, outspoken star of ABC’s outspoken show Fresh Off the Boat, has launched a massive rant against the star of Manchester by the Sea following his Best Actor nomination.

Affleck settled suits alleging sexual harassment from two women who worked on his documentary film I’m Still Here in 2010. He was never charged .

In a Twitter post about Casey Affleck that got shared over 5,000 times, Wu wrote: “Right, he’s not running for Prez. He’s running for an award that honors a craft whose purpose is examining the dignity of the human experience & young women are deeply human…the choices an awarding committee makes DOES increase the dignity of an award and brings to light to the pursuit our craft seeks to honor.

“It signifies said committee’s awareness of the harmful oversights it may have unknowingly participated in in the past, not repeat it and not to use it as an excuse to reinforce the industry’s gross and often hidden mistreatment of women. Art doesn’t exist for the sake of awards, but awards DO exist to honor all that art is trying to accomplish in life.”

In the piece, which she said arose from a conversation with actor Peter Shinkoda (who hasn’t been tweeting about Affleck), she added: “In acting, human life matters. It’s why art exists. I know it’s just an award but I guess I’m in this career, not for awards, but because the treatment of human life matters to me. So I stand the f–k up for it.”

She added on Twitter: that future generations will be sullied if Affleck ends up honored: “I care most about the young boys & girls who will absorb what the Academy’s choices will implicitly teach them about rewards & rape culture.”

Heather Matarazzo, star of The Princess Diaries 2, joined Wu in reviving the acting protest, tweeting: “If I settle something out of court, will I get an Oscar nomination as well? Or does that just go for people like Casey Affleck?”

Affleck, as we have reported, is on course to win Best Actor Oscar next month despite the “Molester by the Sea” allegations.

At which point his peers might get really nasty.
