Students at Ryerson University in Toronto held a candlelight vigil Thursday evening to commemorate the death of Harambe, a gorilla gunned down at the Cincinnati Zoo after a child fell into his pen.
The Facebook announcement for the vigil accumulated more than 3,000 shares. It read as follows:
In order to commemorate the passing of our beloved Harambe, who taught us nothing but kindness, a vigil will be held at Lake Devo.
We will sing hymns and mourn together, then hit up Burrito Boyz to eat our problems away.

Some students captured video of the event.
Since his death in May, the beloved Harambe has become a popular internet meme for millennials. University students across the country (and the world, apparently) have been going out of their way to ironically express their condolences.
Earlier this month, for example, the men’s soccer team at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell held a “Harambe Night” that offered students who wore gorilla suits to the game a chance to win prizes.

These student obviously aren’t aware of the extremely problematic history of primate imagery in the world of soccer. Oh well. Cool meme, bro.
