In the wake of the Dallas shootings that left 5 police officers dead at the hands of a radicalized black power militant, Black Lives Matter organizers have  sought to distance themselves from the story, insisting they are a peaceful movement.

Leaders of the protest movement have argued that Black Lives Matter is not anti-police and is in no way responsible for the rhetoric or atmosphere surrounding the recent wave of anti-police violence. This past weekend, for example, several officers were injured in St. Paul Minnesota. Federal authorities and Baton Rouge Police recently thwarted a planned attack on police by three suspects now in custody.

The words of Black Lives Matters leaders in media appearances don’t exactly add up to the history of protests and riots dating as far back as Ferguson and Baltimore.
