In case you missed it, Tuesday was National Muslim Women’s Day.

Well, pop superstar Alicia Keys was all over it (temporarily at least), posting the following picture on Instagram and Twitter for the world to marvel at:

Keys spoke out against President Trump’s alleged “Muslim registry” back in January during the Women’s March on Washington.  Her husband, producer and rapper Swizz Beatz is a practicing Muslim.

But people, from both ends of the political spectrum, were quick to point out the ridiculousness of using traditional Islamic dress and sporty poses to symbolize strong women. Islamic niqabs are generally regarded as symbols of oppression against women. If you do somehow see the clothing as empowering and expressive, sensually showing a leg defeats the entire purpose of the outfit, which is female modesty. Trying to make it sexy is like me sewing a kippah to my shoulder, or wearing a turban as a pair of pants.

Keys appears to have realized the absurdity of her photo shoot, because the post been taken down from both sites.
