Chicago-based Tribune Publishing, one of the most storied media companies in the country dating back well over a century, has announced one of the most puzzling corporate rebranding schemes in recent memory.
From now on, it’s going to be called “tronc.” Millennials will love it. The new name is all lowercase like the cool kids are doing it these days so… maybe?

According to a press release, tronc will market itself as “a content curation and monetization company focused on creating and distributing premium, verified content across all channels.” Sounds fun!
The announcement, however, was met with widespread astonishment and mockery on social media.
"tronc" is a committee of management consultants/legacy publishers' idea of a new media name. That and the noise a rabid goose makes.

Tronc isn't anymore nutty a name than Google. But a company with a 100 year old name changing it to Tronc is this: pic.twitter.com/SzNF29qwrx
