Ben Lerer, whose father Ken co-founded the Huffington Post and BuzzFeed, has recently received a whooping $100 million investment from Discovery to run his family company Group Nine Media, making him an influential media CEO overnight. But rather than acting discreetly and responsibly, Ben has been taking cheap shots at Donald Trump.
The younger Lerer, who’s long enjoyed the sunshine of his father’s wealth and influence in the media world, just attacked Donald Trump for tweeting that he’s working “hard, even on Thanksgiving.”
The Thrillist CEO smugly responded: “Shut up and let us enjoy our holiday, asshole.”

It’s unclear whether Lerer thinks this is a normal way for a CEO to talk to the President-Elect. Perhaps it has to do with Lerer’s upbringing and his dad’s politics. After all, Ken Lerer is well-known for hosting fundraisers for Barack Obama at his residence in the legendary El Dorado apartment building on Manhattan’s exclusive Central Park West.
Or perhaps Ben is feeling jealous of another, more successful young entrepreneur, also propped by father’s vast empire, Jared Kushner? Forbes recently wrote a puff piece about Kushner titled “How Jared Kushner Won Trump The White House“. He’s emerged as one of Trump’s most influential advisors, and Trump recently told the New York Times that he may charge Jared with making peace in the Middle East.
Maybe Ben Lerer would have a better shot at being influential if he stopped making smug comments on Twitter?
