In a recent episode of his ABC sitcom Last Man Standing, actor and comedian Tim Allen used his platform to mock special snowflake college students who demand their campuses be treated as a safe space.

In the episode, Allen’s character Mike Baxter is preparing to give a speech to business majors at his daughter Mandy’s college. Mandy’s school gives her a list of micro-aggressions that her father should avoid, and in the scene we see her attempting to make his speech politically correct.

He attempts to start his speech by saying “ladies and gentlemen” which, of course, is offensive because it “excludes those who don’t identify as either”. He then goes on to say that America is the land of opportunity, but he is not allowed to say that because it implies that everyone has the same opportunities and that is offensive.

“Stop! Okay, by saying that America’s the land of opportunity, you are implying that everyone has the same opportunities.” Mandy says, to which he replies “I’m not implying it. I’m saying it. If you live here and you work hard, you can succeed. That’s how this works.” Of course, that is also offensive to anyone who has worked hard and not succeeded so he is not allowed to say that either.
