Ghostbusters (2016) Trailer
A common motif of social justice warriors (SJWs) on social media is that nothing can be enjoyed and everything is problematic. Take the new Ghostbusters trailer that dropped yesterday.
A rational human being would think, “Isn’t is great to see a film where women occupy traditionally male roles, cast with a woman of color and featuring women of differing body types. This is a win for feminism in my book.” WRONG. Remember, everything is problematic.
The latest stick up the radical PC people’s butt is the character played by Leslie Jones, a black woman for reference. While the other three women Ghostbusters in the movie are scientists, Jones plays an average woman, an MTA worker, whose contribution to the team is her extensive knowledge of New York City.
@IWriteILove @Lesdoggg it’s pretty valid to, from what is in the trailer, be annoyed the character looks like a stereotype imo? no?

Jones fired back with a few tweets of her own.
@IWriteILove I'm in the movie. Y'all ever happy
— Leslie Jones (@Lesdoggg) March 3, 2016
Regular People save the world everyday so if I'm the sterotype!! Then so be it!! We walk among Heroes and take them for granted.

Jones last Tweet got to the heart of a kind of classism inherent in the criticism of Jones character. What’s so wrong with being an MTA worker? An average Jane? Nothing in the trailer says Jones will be a sidekick. There’s not really enough info in the trailer to make these assumptions.
Then there’s the fact that most of these people haranguing Jones on Twitter are white. They are essentially whitesplaining (to use their own parlance) a black woman about how racist her character is.
And then there’s this promo poster released before the trailer.
Meet Patty Tolan. Ghost Tracker, Municipal Historian, Metaphysical Commando. #Ghostbusters pic.twitter.com/mUUwqkwFQS

It clearly states that Jones’ character is a municipal historian. It fits into her line in the trailer, “You guys are really smart about this science stuff but I know New York.” Unless they changed the script, she could have a degree in municipal history and be an MTA employee.
@Vims8 you haven't seen the movie yet you don't know wtf my char is. you by a trailer. omg are y'all that arrogant. so is mta worker trash?
— Leslie Jones (@Lesdoggg) March 4, 2016
The point is that it’s too early to tell if Leslie is some kind of glaring stereotype or well-rounded member of the Ghostbusters team. So there’s no reason to be an asshole and start ragging on Jones personally for her first major role in a huge movie. She’s stoked to be in the Ghostbusters, just be happy for her.
If I may momentarily speak in the tongue of the SJW, check your privilege entitled white people of Twitter and let Leslie Jones enjoy a good thing.
